For our season finale, we'll travel across continents for Qudsiya’s conversation with Priti Salian, a journalist, media consultant, and trainer based in Bengaluru, India. Priti’s work focuses on gender equality, disability, and inclusion through the lens of human rights and solutions based journalism. She is the creator of the acclaimed newsletter Reframing Disability.
Priti and Qudsiya discussed Priti’s interest in disability coverage in India, her groundbreaking research as a fellow at the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism about the representation of disabled journalists in Indian newsrooms, and solutions for ensuring that disabled journalists thrive and that disability coverage reflects the diversity and dynamism of the disability community in India and beyond.

Priti Salian
About the guest:
Priti Salian is an independent journalist based in Bengaluru, India, and the author of Reframing Disability, a newsletter simplifying disability inclusion for content creators. She has reported from India, Germany, and Uganda on human rights, social justice, development, culture, and more specifically covered issues of disability, gender, global health, education, and ageing.
In 2019, as Robert Bosch Foundation’s Media Ambassador, Priti travelled across Germany for three months and reported on ageing, migration, disability and culture. In 2022, she was a journalist fellow at the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism in Oxford, where she worked on disability inclusion in India's news and newsrooms. Her paper, “A 9-step plan for ‘curb-cutting’ disability access in India's news and newsrooms” was a result of the study. She is an accredited media consultant and trainer of Gender Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, and Solutions Journalism. In 2023, she was awarded the European Journalism Centre’s Global Health Security Grant.
Since early 2023, Priti has been working for the Disability Justice Project where she has trained disability rights activists and journalists in rights-based journalism. She also runs a group of journalists interested in disability-inclusive reporting.
